Erik Hagen
When people see my mixed media paintings, installations and wall relief sculptures, I’d like them to contemplate the depth of geologic time and experience the wonder of being alive in this relatively short moment.
Hagen was born in 1967 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He studied art and art history at Carleton College (BA) and won a post-graduate art residency at Carleton for one year. Hagen has additional degrees in environmental engineering and water resources management from the University of Washington (BSCE, MSCE).
A passion for communicating science to non-technical audiences is a passion throughout his career as an engineer, policy analyst, and artist.
Hagen moved to Houston in 2012. He is Vice President of the Houston Visual Arts Alliance, a non-profit artist membership organization.
His artworks are found in public and private collections across the country and abroad, including The Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Sea Oceanographic Institute in Woods Hole, MA, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Washington, DC. In Houston, his work can be found in Mixed Emotions Gallery and Serrano Gallery.
